Inside Tom
"Drinking with the Blues"
The abridged version: The man
drinks with a demos as his world
continues to sink. His conscience,
which can be seen in the reflection
in the water, screams at him to
stop. An angel attempts to fend off
the demon with her bow and arrow.
She wants to protect him. A lone
trumpeter blows his horn. He is not
playing jazz or blues music but the
sound of Taps, foreshadowing the
man's certain death. Moreover, the
man is being radiated by God's
light, exposing his sin. He also has
a cut below his rib cage, which is
like the wound Christ received
while being crucified. This
symbolizes his eternal connection
with God. Furthermore, the
painting is a reflection of the
artist's brother who died from
complications due to alcoholism at
the age of 44.
